The ANSI definition of Certification: Certification is a process through which a nongovernmental entity grants a time-limited recognition to an individual after verifying that he or she has met established criteria for proficiency or competency, usually through an eligibility application and assessment. Certifications have ongoing requirements for maintaining proficiency and competency and can be revoked for not meeting these ongoing requirements.
Certificate Program
ANSI definition: In a certificate program the learning event(s) and the assessment(s) are both developed and administered by the certificate issuer, and there is an essential link between them. That is, the learning event(s) are designed to help participants achieve learning outcomes and the assessment is designed to evaluate the learners' attainment of those intended learning outcomes. In contrast to a certification, certificates do not have ongoing maintenance or renewal requirements and therefore, cannot be revoked.
Our certification program was created specifically as a result of so many people getting into this industry under false pretenses by being mislead into thinking that medical billing is easy and requires no training or knowledge. It was and continues to be our goal of raising industry standards - of separating professional career billers from those that are just not serious about this industry.
The Difference
Most medical billing certificate programs rely on a one-time fee that isn't related to a true certification exam but rather, to an assessment of their educational or online program. What it comes down to is whether you want to test your knowledge of the course you've just taken or you want to test your proficiency and knowledge of your skill level of medical billing. If you're simply interested in a certificate program, visit our online medical billing course webpage.
