Employer Scrutiny and Screening for Employees and Providers

Feb. 14, 2017 at Noon ET (11am CT, 9am PT)

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) has released guidance regarding how health care providers participating in Medicare and / or Medicaid must handle mandatory exclusion screening procedures. This guidance has dramatically transformed exclusion screening from a simple, annual check to a thorough monthly screening obligation that includes mandatory checks of all employees, contractors, and vendors. Last year, OIG screening audits greatly intensified. Join us as we discuss the importance of exclusion screening, how to screen and which exact databases must be screened – according to both federal and state regulations, how often and which employees providers must screen, and how providers must document their exclusion screening efforts in order to comply with the law. Q & A to follow. This webinar is scheduled for 60 minutes.

Discounts and Waivers -- What You Need to Know

April 12, 2017 at Noon ET (11am CT, 9am PT)

Both health care providers and third-party billers often have a difficult time trying to determine whether their efforts qualify as “good faith efforts to collect” outstanding amounts.  Additionally, what does HHS-OIG mean when it says that “routine” waivers are likely to violate the federal Anti-Kickback Statute.  When can you give someone a discount? In this webinar, attorneys Jennifer Papapanagiotou and Michael Cook will discuss the risks your practice may run when waiving cop-payments and deductibles for patients covered by governmental and private payor plans. This webinar is scheduled for 60 minutes with a Q & A session to follow.

July 13, 2017 at Noon ET (11am CT, 9am PT)

As Medicare transitions away from “pay-and-chase,” more and more health care providers are finding their company’s Medicare number subject to termination or revocation, usually based on one or more recommendations of a Medicare contractor. How can you avoid one of these adverse actions? How should you respond if your number if terminated or revoked? What impact do these actions have on a third-party billing company? This webinar is scheduled for 60 minutes with a Q & A session to follow.

►Third Party Billing Agreements, Pitfalls and Client Compliance Auditing

September 12, 2017 at Noon ET (11am CT, 9am PT)

Unfortunately, most third-party billing company agreements with physicians have either been copied off of the internet or modeled off of a general “service” contract. Neither of these approaches protects your company! During this webinar, we will discuss many of the pitfalls of using a poorly written billing agreement. We will also discuss how you can incorporate compliance into your agreement, thereby making it easier to protect yourself (and your physicians) by periodically auditing your client’s charts to ensure that their billings are properly documented and support medical necessity. In this webinar, attorneys Ismail Laher and Robert W. Liles will discuss the importance of having a sound contract in place.  This webinar is scheduled for 60 minutes with a Q & A session to follow.

►ADRs, Pre and Post-Payment Reviews, Audits and Suspensions Impact on Physician Practice

October 10, 2017 at Noon ET (11am CT, 9am PT)

Pre-payment reviews are now being conducted by both ZPICs and RACs. While the government has placed some restrictions on their use, contractors continue to exercise great latitude in their scope and the length that they are imposed. Similarly, contractors remain in control of post-payments conducted and suspension actions recommended to CMS. In this webinar, attorneys Ashley Hudson and Adam Bird will discuss these enforcement actions and outline the adverse impact each action can have on your practice. This webinar is scheduled for 60 minutes with a Q & A session to follow.
